Three sustainability business plans were presented at the Startup Weekend Micronesia hosted online event. The event was hosted by the student organization of the University of Guam Entrepreneur Society, the UOG Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Pacific Island Small Business Development Center Network.
With help from Northern Marianas College, College of Micronesia-FSM and SBDC centers across Micronesia, the weekend event brought together 31 participants across eight islands in Micronesia.

Participants presented their business ideas with an emphasis on sustainability. Participants then formed teams and made plans to turn ideas into small business startups. The teams presented their startups to a jury.
“We encourage all teams to bring their new business plans to life,” said Jeresa Camacho, Head of the Entrepreneur Society at UOG.
Winners received a selection of lasting gifts as well as gift certificates and laptop bags, AirPods Pro and Yeti products.
First place: Vibin ‘Ridez
Concept: Sale, rental and maintenance of electric bicycles and scooters

Concept: Affordable delivery service for mail and goods throughout Pohnpei

Third place: drinking water
Concept: A drinking water solution for the inhabitants of Kosrae
Members: Emily O’Steen, Kianalynn M. Sigrah, Sepe T. Tolenna, Tolenna M. Tolenna, Trime S. George, Steve P. George (all from Kosrae)
The event is associated with Google Techstars Startup Weekend, a program launched in over 150 countries to teach aspiring entrepreneurs how to start a business.
UOG graduate students of the Professional Master of Business Administration and SBDC Pacific Islands program at UOG first introduced the Startup Weekend event model in Guam in 2014, in Saipan in 2016, and in Palau, Chuuk, Kosrae, Yap and Pohnpei for the first time. times in 2019.
